THE Y FOR

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

We focus our work in three key areas, because nurturing the potential of kids, helping people live healthier, and supporting our neighbors are fundamental to strengthening communities.

ANNUAL SUPPORT CAMPAIGN

Annual Support Strong Kids Campaign

The Copley Family YMCA serves kids, seniors, and families throughout the communities of City Heights, North Park, Kensington-Talmadge, Normal Heights, and Allied Gardens. Since 1957 the Copley Family YMCA has been dedicated to improving the quality of human life and helping all people realize their fullest potential.

Through a variety of programs like child care, learn to swim, and camping, the YMCA provides a safe place where kids can learn about the values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

In a service area with an annual median household income of $26,000, over 90% of those we serve qualify for financial assistance provided by the Copley Family YMCA through the generous support of our donors.

Thanks to generous donors, no boy or girl is turned away due to lack of funds.

MISSION MOMENT

Julio Calvillo grew up in Mexico and spent much of his time training as a competitive volleyball player. Julio now lives in City Heights and is an active member of his local Y, the Copley Family YMCA. Through his involvement with the Copley Family Y he has been able to share his interest in healthy living with his three children; Julio Jr., 12; Elias, 11; and Valeria, 7.

Julio told us "By respecting and caring for their bodies, my kids learn to love their bodies and love themselves." All three of Julio's children take swim lessons here at the Y. In addition to swim lessons Valeria truly enjoys the time she spends with her Dad in Monday night's yoga class. "Valeria looks forward to Mondays and races through her chores in order to get to the Y," her Dad mentions. Valeria brings her very own custom decorated mat that the instructor gave her. Julio has been an active participant in the many exercise programs such as step aerobics. Lately he enjoys the flexibility and strength benefits he gets from yoga and water exercise. Julio says " I am leaner and stronger and my joints are better protected. I'm in better shape now and I want to be around a long time for my kids. The YMCA has something for everyone in my family!"

The Y has provided the Calvillo family and many other families with opportunities to spend time with each other while taking steps towards leading healthier lives.
